An offline gun inventory app, with no cloud at all

Most inventory apps keep a copy of your list on their servers. Arms & Ammo Log can’t: it has no permission to use the internet, so your records exist only on your phone.

No internet permission, by design

Android apps must declare the permission to use the network. Arms & Ammo Log doesn’t declare it, so Android won’t let it send or receive anything: not your records, not usage data, not crash reports. It isn’t a setting you have to find and switch off. The app simply has no way to connect.

What you can see for yourself

  1. Data usage: open Android Settings › Apps › Arms & Ammo Log. Under Mobile data or Data usage it shows that no data has been used, and it stays that way however long you use the app.
  2. Airplane mode: switch it on. Everything in the app works exactly the same, because nothing in it ever depended on a connection.

Encrypted on the phone

Your records are stored in an encrypted database (AES-256), and every photo and receipt is encrypted too. The keys are held by Android’s secure key storage on that phone and never leave it. Photos are re-saved when you add them, which strips the location and camera details a picture usually carries.

Locked, and hidden from the app switcher

The app asks for your fingerprint, face or PIN, and locks again after you leave it. It’s hidden from the recent-apps screen, which also blocks screenshots. Serial numbers stay hidden until you tap Show.

The app lock screen: your records are encrypted on this phone, unlock to open them

Backups you keep

Android’s automatic cloud backup is switched off for this app on purpose. Instead, you make a backup when you want one: a single file, locked with a password you choose, saved wherever you like, such as a USB drive or your computer. Without the password nobody can open it, including us. The same goes for a spreadsheet or insurance report: it leaves the phone only when you save it, and the app tells you first that those files aren’t encrypted.

No account to create

There’s no sign-up, no email address and no password reset by email, because there’s no server holding anything to reset. No analytics and no ads either. The short version of all this is on the home page; the full details are in the privacy policy.

Questions

If there’s no cloud, what happens when I change phones?

Make an encrypted backup on the old phone, copy the file to the new one, and restore it there with your password.

Can I still buy Pro without internet in the app?

Yes. Purchases go through the Google Play Store app, which handles the payment itself. Arms & Ammo Log only asks the Play Store whether you own Pro.

Keep your records to yourself.

Free on Google Play. An iPhone version is coming soon.
